We hope this information will provide answers to the many pertinent questions which arise as one deliberates on learning the art of Reiki. To begin, we suggest that you gather all the information you can about the founders of Reiki - Dr. Usui, Dr. Hayashi and Mrs. Takata, who introduced Reiki to the west. Also talk to those connected with Reiki – the practitioners and the recipients; ask them about the benefits they have received from Reiki. Comprehend what ‘ki’ means and its relation to healing. Talk to martial artists and anyone with knowledge of what ki or chi is. Take time to learn and understand what the word means.

Be wary. Remember when eastern philosophy is translated to western understanding, the interpretation can very often be vastly diluted and even manipulated. As a transplanted Oriental, whose exposure to eastern cultures, beliefs, dogmas and understanding began at birth, I have seen this happen so often in North America. I suggest that you ask as many questions as is necessary. If needed, amiably challenge the answers you are given. Do not be satisfied until you can fully comprehend and truly believe the answers.

Find yourself a Reiki master to put your questions to. Listen to his or her answers carefully. Remember: the answers - and the truth - are all within us. Look deep. Ask yourself why you are comfortable or uncomfortable with the answers you received. And you will understand and know.
The Amethyst Reiki Centre, in its design to teach Reiki, has adopted very strict adherence to oriental philosophy and understanding, and is careful not to interpret or manipulate explanations just for the purpose of adding colour to impress an audience.
